Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016!

The last couple weeks of the year have been filled with fun and blessings, highlighted mostly by the arrival of grandchild #7, born 12/24.

I was away when she arrived.  We spent a week cycling and hiking in Guadeloupe. Rain forests, waterfall hikes,  beaches, quiet back roads, French food. Lovely place.IMG_1519-2IMG_1406

The week before, we toured the 9/11 memorial and museum in NYC. Chilling and sad, and an important reminder of our freedom.IMG_1151 IMG_1147

Upon returning from vacation, we took our daughter to the Broadway hit, Hamilton. As a law student, she gleaned a lot from the struggles of the Founding Fathers and the genius of this particular man. One critic a while back wrote it’s worth selling a kidney to nab a ticket. While that does sound drastic, the musical is unlike anything ever done before and worth every penny. It will be opening next fall in Chicago, tickets might be easier to get there. IMG_1154

We caught up on a bunch of movies. Worth seeing: Spotlight, Trumbo, Truth, and Suffragette.
Brooklyn—sweet and a bit sappy; you see the entire movie in the trailer.
Fun, because we went with our daughter: Hunger Games.
Over my head, but apparently well done and an accurate portrayal of the power of banks: The Big Short.
Waste of time: the new Star Wars—so dull.

My sister Madeline recommended an interesting book, Kabul Beauty School, a memoir by Deborah Rodriguez about her experiences teaching and founding a beauty school and salon. A fascinating look into the lives of women in Afghanistan.

Looking ahead, it’s a big birthday year for me. I’m hoping to have several celebrations, bringing together family and friends. I’ve hired artists to illustrate two picture books— more on that in future posts. I’m starting a personal historian business—LifeCycle Stories – more soon on that too. I’m investigating various volunteer positions, hopefully some that will include political campaigning and anti-gun lobbying.

We have a few trips already planned and I really want to master crow pose in yoga.

Best wishes for a happy, healthy, 2016.

  4. Just got winded reading about your last few weeks. May I suggest a blog in how you find the energy? It all sounds marvelous, another friend was on Guadeloupe last week too – if the roads are anything like SBH you are one strong courageous woman!!

    • The backroads weren’t too hilly. Part of the island is insane– we didn’t do that! SBH? What is that? St. Barts?
Also, believe me, there are plenty of days of just sitting around reading the paper…
