Birthdays! Babies! & New York City!

It’s been a busy week—royal baby in the UK arrived on my mother’s 83rd birthday family 2013 and the following morning our 4th grandchild,  and 3rd grandson was born, weighing in at 8lb. 4.oz.       0-9 He’ll be named tomorrow after the Bris.

We’ve done a bit of babysitting, taking the older one to the park.CIMG2638  We  visited the others who left for a 1o-day trip to Detroit. CIMG2626 (Nothing like cardboard boxes!)

We managed to squeeze in a play– Choir Boy by Tarell Alvin McCraney, where we saw Mandy Patinkin in the audience, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Civil War paintings and photography exhibit,  and the new Woody Allen movie, Blue Jasmine. We ate dinner in Soho where   Nathan Lane  sat nearby.

Congratulations on the birth of your precious new grandson! The happiest days are when babies are born. Always a favorite quote. 😉

I love NYC! Sounds so wonderful, all your adventures and star spottings. We saw Nathan Lane in Addams Family and we were amazed and delighted with the response he got from the audience when he walked out. I mean, I know how much we love him, but weren’t aware how much EVERYBODY loves him! We were all on our feet, cheering, and all he did was walk out!

Glad you had so many wonderful events to celebrate. Happy Birthday to your Mom, and Happy Birth Day to your new grandson.

    • Thanks– hope you liked Addams- we’re close friends with the composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa– it was a Tony snub that year for sure. All good! Love that quote! Nothing like a newborn. What miracles.

My husband and I visited NYC in June while our daughter was there dancing. We agreed that it was harder to keep up in our 60s than when we lived and worked there in our 20s, 30s, and 40s. Our daughter, on the other hand, loved, loved, loved THE BIG APPLE. We too took in a play…The Nance in which Nathan Lane starred as a gay man in the 1930s. Difficult time when homosexuals faced overwhelming discrimination. Lane gave a touching portrayal. When we left, our daughter saw Pippin…a remake with a woman in the title role. My husband and I had seen the original with Ben Vereen in that same role. According to our daughter, the remake was as amazing as the original.

Looks like you’re having a fabulous summer with your grandchildren! Bless your family… 🙂

    • Always so much to do in NYC. Glad you were able to make the trip– so far from Hawaii and so exciting about her dance career. I’ll have to check out the Nance- and I remember the original Pippin too! Great show!

  10. Congratulations on the new grandson. Also on the star sightings. Two of my favorite people. I have been catching up on my Woody Allen Movies. I am watching the last one in preparation for “Blue Jasmine.”
